As the lengthy government shutdown carries on, communities across the country are bracing for the impacts of the uncertainty, particularly older adults relying on stable systems of support. It is times like these that call for strong leaders. This month, I am proud to announce the launch of Leverage, a new independent, nonpartisan advocacy organization created with a $3 million startup investment from Next50. This week, we are announcing Jarett Hughes, former Director of Policy and Research for Governor Jared Polis, as the inaugural President and CEO. Leverage will focus on making aging more affordable through strong, coordinated policy advocacy.
Despite uncertainty with government programming, our partners and grantees are driving progress on the ground and supporting older adults in communities most impacted. Next50 recently announced nearly $4 million in grants this quarter to organizations that build resilience and change systems to create economic opportunities for older adults.
Amid disorganization and unreliability of government, we remain invested in steadfast nonprofits. We look forward to building more partnerships with those making it more affordable to age. Thank you for the work that you do.
~ Peter Kaldes, Esq. President and CEO
